ESCC to bid for money for cycling

On 21 July Cycle Lewes and Cycle Seahaven were invited to meet Lisa Simmonds and Andrew Keer of East Sussex County Council to discuss our priorities for their bids to the government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund. The bids would need to be drafted by November 2011 and could include better connections between Lewes, Kingston and Newhaven, links for walking and cycling from Lewes to the South Downs, and improvements to access to railway stations.

As well as contributing ideas for improvements, there may be opportunities to get involved in activities such as training - please get in contact if you are interested.

Cycle Lewes map featured in Viva Lewes

Anne Locke has an article in the August edition of Viva Lewes magazine about cycling in Lewes and the 2008 Cycle Lewes map, published by Lewes District Council as part of its ‘Think Air’ air quality initiative. You can pick up a FREE copy at Lewes Tourist Information Centre or look at it online - the routes preferred by local cyclists in Lewes here and the on and off-road routes in the surrounding area here. It was researched and written by Tim and Anne Locke, with input on off-road routes from Stephen Burgess, and designed by Lewes graphic artist Andy Gammon.

Unfortunately the Viva article has an error, introduced by the editors - the bridle path goes up to the right of the private road to Lewes racecourse, not to the left.

Meetings and rides?

Cycle Lewes isn't currently running rides or regular meetings, but if you are interested in helping set these up do get in touch. For links to other groups in the area who lead rides, see the routes section.
